Our system is a five step filter system. As you can see filter 1 and 2 our just plain gross. The filters are somewhere between a year and a half and two years.
All that brown stuff is what's pulled out of our water on a daily basis. Think about that the next time you turn on your faucet for a little tap water.

Does it make a diff that you live in the country? Or does all your water come from a city treated plant?
Our water comes from a water co-op that purifies the water just like a city water plant would. When we lived in town the filters looked just as gross when we changed them. Does it make you thirsty?
