Moving Day

Moving day has arrived. We moved the chickens to the coop this week. They seem to be loving the space and seem to be enjoying my visits more. Maybe because I'm more on their level? We have a security system in place, i.e. the baby monitor. My husband thinks it's hilarious that I put the baby monitor out there. I said, "Well I want to listen to them and this way if something gets in we'll here about it".

Awwww, they're getting so big! And don't feel badly about the baby monitor. I *still* have mine all set up...granted, I don't use it as much any more, but if I ever feel the need to check in on them, all I have to do is turn on the switch! :-) It's just the best thing to have and it will keep you from running out to the coop 25+ times a night, every time you have a worry about your babies!

Sooo, is it crazy mine is on 24/7? I even leave it on when I'm not home, for fear I will forget to turn it on upon my return. I'm just sure that the minute I become "comfortable and complacent" the enemy will come!

No! It's not crazy at all. I had mine on 24/7 for over 2 1/2 months. Once they fully feathered out and, well, just got "tougher" and seemed less fragile, it just didn't seem necessary to have it on all the time. And then other things started to happen, Pip and Roop started testing out their voices, the chickens in general started making noises loud enough on their own that I could hear them without the monitor (!), etc., that it was just kind of a natural transition to a monitor-less existence. Now that they're "big kids", the monitor just seems kind of silly - but, again, I still have it here, all set up, just in case. :-)

The baby monitor is a great idea! You can turn it on and off at your will. Very smart of you.
You little chicks are growing up!

Barbara: Well, I can't take the credit for the idea. I read it on other blogs and decided to try it here.
